Why do I always feel like I am being ripped off my hair salons?

I call to make an appointment and I ask how much they would charge me for the services I will be receiving, they tell me $80. I get there and they do it then next thing I know they say $120. I say but I thought it was $80 and they "Oh no not for you, you have a lot of hair" (mind you the hair dresser just told me that she deals with people with a lot more hair than mine). I understand maybe charging me $10-$20 more but Jeez $40 more. And why don't they tell you when they start working on your hair in the beginning, "Listen I know I told you $80, but you need more work than I thought so it will be more."

Who else feels this way and after paying that much and coming home and seeing that the highlights are quite brassy after making it clear that's NOT what I want should she fix it for free now.

She should definitely fix it for free, she should be able to put some kind of toner on it to bring down the brassy color...

I know hindsight is 20/20 but next time after calling and getting the price, as soon as you step in the door ask again... "I was quoted 80.00 on the phone...look at my hair and let me know what the price will be" Then you can decide if you want to pay the extra or mabey you can negotiate it lower or just hit the door if they give you a 40 dollar increase...that is way high!

They will probably stick with the quoted 80.00 to keep the business. They are just taking advantage raising the price after the job is done.

You paid enough for it, if you are not happy with it, she should be fixing it for you for free. I'd stand firm and choose another salon next time.

id complain and try to get it fixed free

That is a rip off. I've only heard of extra charges for Blow drying and curling or styling. Usually there's a price tag on each type of work you want done. That is a rip. I am a beautician and never done that, but it is not un-heard of. The girls in the salon pay rent to have the chair you sit in, so they try to make a lot off the customers. But when the customer feels ripped off they don't come back.

You are major tip I do now, PAY IN ADVANCE say your running late that way they cant rip you off.

Also I used to pay top dollars until I went to a cheaper place It took a few people before I found a stylist I liked but shes awesome better than the $100+ but for a THIRD of the price.

go back and have the stylist..give you what you asked for...also i would check out another place..sounds like she is one of those ..they do what they want and not what you ask..a good stylist will listen to all you say...trust me i am a professional..and discuss everything....hope this helps

If you are finding that they are charging you a different amount without notice, try a different salon. They should be telling you up front that they add on for heavy, thick hair due to more time and product used.

Call around and ask about pricing for heavy, thick hair. Find the salon that tells you up front if they charge differently for different hair types. They should be honest about it before you even walk in their door.

If you are unhappy with the style when you get home, call the salon and tell them that you want it fixed, for free. They should readily agree. If they refuse, then make sure you never go back.

because you are

First of all you should of only paid her for what she stated the first time.80.00..No more no less. If you are not satisfied then yes go back and have her fix it for free. You have already paid her and she needs to fix it the way u asked. If she will not fix it then you tell her you have no choice but to take her to small claims court and get your money back. They are provideing you a service and you are suppose to be satisfied. Most likely the word small claims court gets them. Good luck

Thats why I do my own hair. they over charge and then don't do your hair the way you want it done.

The person you spoke to on the phone, should be reprimanded. You should have never received a quote by phone. It's like calling a repair shop for your car. If they can't see it, they won't give you a quote. The more hair you have, the more it will cost, because it takes longer to preform all parts of the service, from shampooing, through the final blow dry. Also, most beauty shops have a receptionist, they don't always know that much about doing hair. She can give you a starting point, to the max. amount. That is the best information, you should be getting by phone. You should be doing more talking, to the stylist of your choice when you arrive at the beauty shop, and have him or her give the coats, before beginning the service. If you chose not to have it done, you may have to pay a consulting fee.

That's the way we handle it in our salon.

If your unhappy with your services, find a place you do get satisfaction. We stylist are only as good as the information you supply us BEFORE we do the service.

If a hair salon is doing that to you, you need to look elsewhere. That is their trick. It does not even make sense to tell someone that the charges are more for you because you have more hair. That said, look around and you will find an honest salon to deal with.

Pay before they start doing your hair, then when yr done, rush off.

OR

Go to a different salon

You should negotiate the price, in person, before they start working on your hair. It's common to get a different price over the phone because they cannot see your hair and know exactly what you want done. It is their fault though if they messed up your hair. They should fix it for free. Also, they should not have charged you more because a different stylist blow dried your hair after! If I were you I would find another salon where they treat you better and stick to their word. If I did that to the people that came into the salon where I worked I wouldn't have a job for very long.
