How much do you tip (or do you?) in USA for the following?

- Movers who help you move house

- Roadside assistance from AAA

- Valet parking

- Fedex delivery of heavy items

- Waiter

- Hair dresser

- Help out in supermarket

- Hotel housekeeping

- Curbside checkin

I usually tip according to the quality service provided but have a problem when a person said 'his tip is not included' even before he offer any service.

I always generously grease their palms with a cool 1%. they love me for it.

As a former waitress I worked very hard for my living. I gave everyone excellent service and expected to get the standard for very good service which is 20%. The rule is to tip 25% when the atmosphere, food, and service is exceptional. 15% to any server who really gives a hoot about what they are doing is close to an insult. Tipping at full-service restaurants is expected. When I was a kid and would go out for french fries with friends, we would always tip. My mother (a former waitress) always told me, "If you can afford to eat at a restaurant, you can afford to tip."

Just accept the fact that people do these crap jobs for lousy minimum wages because the tips make it worth while and tolerable. If it weren't for tips, I doubt that many people would work in food service as servers.

Movers, I've always used friends so pizza and beer has done the trick, as well as returning the favor.

AAA, I fortunately haven't needed to use. I doubt that I would tip them though, the tow drivers make very nice salaries.

Valet parking $5 usually.

FedEx $0, that's not customary to my knowledge.

Waiter/Waitress minimum 20%.

Hair stylist 10% of total. (It's only supposed to be 5%, but I can't help it.)

Supermarket, I bag my own at the stores I go to most often.

Hotel housekeeping $5-$10/night.

Curbside check-in, don't know where that is done, so I don't have a clue what this is for. Is it for a hotel? I've never done that.

There are many tacky ways that service industry people try to make it clear that a tip is expected. You didn't say what kind of service he was offering, perhaps since you asked, "How much does this cost?" He was indicating that if you didn't know the price perhaps you didn't know that it's a service where tipping is expected.

What bugs me is going to a coffee shop and they have big jars with TIPS on them. All they're doing is a little cashiering and minor "cooking" of a beverage, I don't think that deserves a tip, but I do tip if I "bother" them twice. But I don't really think they are giving great service if I have to go to them. If I was getting table service, I'd happily leave a tip even if it was for coffee and a rice krispy bar.

Oh well, it's nice to get out of the house and if it makes good karma in the world it's easier to tip and keep peace.

Ok so I have this at home hair dye kit. Clairol Herbal Essences bleach blonde XL0

I have medium brown hair, and on the picture on the box it shows that it would turn my hair a dark blonde/ light brown. I dyed my hair the other day, but my roots went too light and I want to fix it. I'm just wondering if anybody has tried this before,and if there are any hair dressers out there, how badly will my hair be damaged if i dye it again? What are the chances of the color becoming some crazy shade of orange?Please don't tell me to go to my stylist because he is out of town and he is the only one I see. Thank you so much %26lt;3

I did the exact same thing only i died it 3 times and the dye only ever worked on the roots.apparently thats because there was another hair dye in my hair. i would suggest using one of those tem wash in colours until your stylist comes back.

Go to a good hairdresser and they will put lots of nice smelling hair lotions and use straighteners and then shape the hair so that it falls nicely in place and it will be manageabe to put in a nice neat pony tail.

HELP!! i put 'sun in' in my hair unaware that it was a progressive dye and that i would be unable to dye my hair again. my hair was strawberry blond but the 'sun in' made it go more orange!! i wanted to dye my hair blonde at the hair dressers but the said because i used the 'sun in' i couldn't dye my hair. i waited awhile but still hated it so i just dyed it brown with semi dye at home. it worked so now that ive dyed on top of it and its grown out a few inches can i get it dyed at the hair dressers?? what will happen if i dye it??

Sun-In has been around for ages and all it is is peroxide and water basically.

It bleaches your hair. It does not "dye" your hair. Peroxide (or bleach) removes pigment from your hair.

To simplify the chemical explanation, all hair has "undertones". Your natural hair color (the color you were born with) has an undertone of orange if that's what you ended up with when bleaching it.

Coloring hair ADDS pigment.

Two different processes.

By the way, "dye" is what is used in textiles. "Haircolor" is the proper terminology for anything with pigment in it that changes your hair color.

Whatever salan you went to, they were full of it and didn't know what they were talking about. Progressive dye?? WTF? OK forget what they said.

It's a bleach.

You can color over bleach but you have to know what you are doing and beware of breakdown of the integrity of your hair and that the color results will vary because of the previous bleaching.

Soooo, YES YOU CAN color (not dye) your roots. Go to a good stylist to get it done and tell them everything you've done to your hair. The more your stylist knows about what's in your hair, the better job they can do.

The initial visit doesnt always require a tip because of your reasons above, but when you go again yes tip her. It can be as much as you want to give, its not like a restaurant where the tip is already deducted. You can give what you want.

I always tip my hairdresser...or any service worker for that matter (waiters, etc.). Returning to the same hairdresser is probably "tip" enough for the first time so don't worry about that one. But, when you return, I'd drop her a little extra. Even if it's just a dollar or two.

sounds like you dont get your haircut very often, but dont sweat it, next time you go just let her know you forgot about the tip, but you wanted to make it up to her, im sure she will understand, let me tell you about tipping however, never give more than what you are comfortable with....anything you give us is always appreciated. for a $35 haircut usually $5 bucks is cool, maybe next time give her $10 for the last time you went. after that $5 should be cool.

I put together a blog for my friends (I figure I'd share it since I wish someone had put this together for me) and I listed the sites that didn't require me to go through pages of ads and that actually pay out cash and not points or entries into a sweepstakes.

I'd say that realistically if you spend about 2-3 hours a day and complete the surveys and offers for about 5-10 sites or even just to refer your friends that are tight on money now and then, you can average about $150- $250 a week. If you want to check it out my blog its:

i recently waxed my eyebrows, not the entire thing , the hair dresser did a stupid job in trying to shape it, but i asked people how long does it take for it to grow back and they all gave me an answer of 6 weeks but i want to know when it grows back would it be normal?

It usually takes mine about 4 weeks to get back to normal, but for most people it's 6 wks. It will probably take more than six to get the kinky shape out enough for you to reshape them yourself. However you may find that in some spots where there used to be a hair, it won't grow there. Waxing can damage the follicle and cause it to never grow back

And in response to one of the other answers on here, it will not grow back thicker or darker than normal. That only happens when shaving, and even then the hair is not darker or thicker, really. What happens during shaving to make it appear that way is that you're actually cutting the hair off at the skin like, so it seems that it is. But since waxing pulls the hair from the root (or is supposed to), the hair may *just maybe* grow back finer and a little softer.

6 weeks is about right, and no it wont grow back like it was in the beginning, it is still gonna have some shape to it, it will take longer then 6 weeks to get ur eyebraws back to no shape!

I had something similar happen to me and it grew back perfectly as for the time it takes to grow back I'd say it depends on how long your hair naturally grows and next time maybe buy one of those cut outs that you put over your eyebrow and wax it yourself. Sally hansen wax is my favorite or opt for a trimmer to fix your eyebrows. Good Luck!

Waxing eyebrows make your life so much easier, but you should have it done by someone really expert. And the only way to find out who's really professional is to give them a try! Now that you know that your hair dresser isn't good then try another one.

The hair should grow back normally. In the meantime, purchase an eyebrow pencil (lighter color than your hair color) and eyebrow brush to fix the damage. Girl, I've been there! This cosmetician did such a bad job waxing my eyebrows. She ruined my natural eyebrow arch and made me look pissed off until the hair grew back!

yeah, they will grow back soon enough, i went to my hair dresser and she waxed mine too and made them way to thin.. i looked like a drag queen for about 2 weeks until more hair started to grow in, it was then that i decided to stop waxing and just get one of those eyebrow shavers like on TV, they work wonders and you cant really mess up.!!!

i had always had a kinky wave since i was little and when i was eleven i copied my cousin and had a perm its now ten years later and my hair is still mega curly so am i safe to say my hair is naturally curly?

Another thing is that my hair is like wire and frizzes up like tina turner i have never been able to have it straightened at hair dressers as it lasts less than an hour before it bounces back into curls any suggestions how to prevent this oh and it comes out in clumps when washed but it doesnt seem to get any thinner why ???

I too have been cursed with the dreaded frizz!! The best thing to do is use serum when you have washed it. This should smooth it. Also get some layers cut into it. It will lighten it up, frame your face and make it easier to manage and style. With regards to straightening it, GHD or other good quality ceramic straighteners should do the job. You can get afro ones for thicker hair as well. Ask your hairdresser for tips. The other option is to have it permanently straightened if you really do hate it that much!! With regards to it coming out when you wash it, that's because the hair is a great deal weaker when wet. Pat it dry rather than rubbing it and use an afro-comb to gently get tangles out. To get it to appear thinner, having layers put in it will help matters!

Well your suppose to lose a certain amount of hair a day......and i have curly hair...instead of fighting it...why dont u embrace it..i love having curly hair..it different..and it doesnt look like everyone else...just go with the curls...get some curling creal to take the frizzies out and define the curl more.

Be happy! I had curly hair all my life, then due to disease lost my hair and its never been the same. There are great products out there to really liven up the curls and make it look fabulous. The other thing that makes or breaks curly hair is a haircut. A good cut will bring out the beauty, a bad cut drives one insane because the curls do whatever and look awful. Personally I have to layer my hair - even before the disease - to really bring out those curls. Find a good hair dresser and talk with him/her. Find out how you can style at home, make it wash and wear and you'll learn to love your curls!

Perms fail out within a few months-so its safe to say that is your natural curl. My hair does the same thing-you really cannot do much straigtening unless they put the iron in an oven-not cooking oven-there are hair dressers that have a small machine that heat up this special iron. You could tell him that he doesn't need to cut your hair to have his hands in it. :P Personally if my husband said he wanted to be my personal hair dresser (rather then me going somewhere) I would first ask him why, and when he tells me maybe just because he wants to I think I would allow him to TRIM it. A woman's hair is very important to her (and see, mine was down to my butt til I got it cut recently to just above my butt :P) and should be handled with care. :P

Toners? Platinum Blonde hair!?

I've got platinum, white blonde hair at the moment.

I bleached my hair myself but recently went to the hair dressers and had my roots re-bleached and a toner put over to make it a white blonde.

The hairdresser said that I can either come back and have it bleached again when my roots need doing and have a toner put over it (to cancel out the yellows) or just go there and have my roots bleached and than buy a home toner kit to keep it an icy-blonde (as this will be cheaper for me).

She said that there are loads of good toners on the high street but didnt specify any.

Does anyone have any recommendations of toners (and if there is a paticular shade which one) which they have used before to cancel out the yellow tones and to keep it looking platinum?

I have used toners initally when I bleached my hair but that made them honey blonde, but please rememeber that I'm looking for a toner that will give my hair the PLATINUM/WHITE look?

They have stuff in drug stores called Drabber - it cancels out the gold tones. I'm an expert, my hair always had the brassiness to it and the drabber really helps. It goes into the hair dye that you apply. Hope this helps :)

I usually do my sisters hair and I use Wella hair dye in silver lady with a 30 volumizer. I use this on my sister to get rid of the yellow and orange in her hair. This makes the highlights really platinum blonde. Hope I was able to help u out.

your hairdresser should automatically put a toner on your hair for you anyway, especially when bleaching as it goes a different colour every time , I'd change my hairdresser if she isn't doing a proper job cause the work reflects badly on her/him it should be included in the price. if you can get some wella colour fresh0/6 silver thats probably the best be careful as hair can go purple only slightly though but it does wash out. where my daughter works would do this without hesitation as thats what they're there for. have it out with them.

this may help to give it a bit of body on your "flat hair days"

I cut my own bangs all of the time, just because the hair dresser I go to always ends up making them way too short or just not how I'd like them. Right now they're growing out side-bangs, but instead of trimming them I want to add some volume to them by cutting in some more layers (just like, two or so) and angling them. How should I go about this?

I cut my own, too.....to get layers, comb your bangs down straight (wet works best for me)

Take your comb and pick up a layer, from the top, of the bangs and trim the desired length. Hold the bangs you want to cut at about a 90 degree angle to your forehead.

Then, use a hairband or clips to hold the cut part up, and comb out another layer, cutting LESS than the first layer.

Now, if you want angling done, with your bangs combed straight down and damp, hold your scissors handle at just a tad of an angle away from your face and cut UP into the bangs...give a great effect!

Good luck! and remember to only cut small amounts off until you get the feel for the new procedures...hair will always grow back, but it does so slowly.
