What is the difference between demi-permanent hair dye and permanant?

I got an all over color job today of demi-permanent dark brown (almost black, it seems), and my hair dresser said it should fade naturally with time, hence the reason she made it a shade darker than I wanted it. what is demi-permanent... and does it fade faster than other dyes or what?

you sound like me exactly. It usually starts to fade in about 4-6 weeks. The nice thing is that you don't get the nasty roots like you do w/permanant color, but if you are covering something up like gray or an old bleach job you have to keep going back.
