Whats the hourly wage for a cosmetologist? ...doing hair a that sorta thing?

I have hit a brick wall when it comes to my career....is going to cosmetology school worth it? And for those of you that are hair dresser ect.... do you enjoy your job?

Salons are different, some you get paid commission, some you do what is called booth rent.

Commission, you get a % of what you done. Like, say, you make 60% commission, and you done a highlight and it cost the customer $60....you don't get the whole $60, you made $36 off of it.

Booth renting, you "rent" your station. You pay a weekly or monthly fee for working there. You may pay $100 a month for your "rent". (Kinda like renting a house.) But, you get all the money off your services. Like if you did that $60 highlight while booth renting, then you would get the whole $60. You just have to make enough to cover your rent. But, also, with booth renting you have to furnish all your supplies. (Hairspray, color, perms, towels, etc.)

Once you get good and quick at your job, booth renting is definately where you will make your money. The amount of money you make will depend on where you work, and how many hours you are willing to put into your job. You CAN make ALOT of money.

Also, the schooling is very different than alot of people think. You really have to do work, you have tests, you learn subjects like chemistry, anatomy, electricity, etc. Hair can be very gross too. You see alot of different things.
