I get extentions in my hair, and they cost $420 every four months. This is very expensive for me, but I love to have it done, and so I save up a lot of money to afford it. I like my hair dresser also, and want to tip her, but since it is so expensive to begin with, I usually only tip her about $20-$30, is this okay? Is this too little? Is it still appropriate to tip 20% or so even when the cost is so high? Thanks for the help :)

$40 should be all right.. 20-30 is not bad either but s you like her and u expect good service 4m her the next time 10% should do.. 20% is 4 millionaires! don't worry! ;)

$20-$30 is more than enough. Don't worry about it.

At least $40-$60 would be better. You can also send
her an appreciation card letting her know how
much you appreciate the job she does on you
and that you wish you could always tip her more.
Personally I think you should try to save up
enough to have the extensions done plus the tip.
Good Luck!!!

(UK) In a restaurant I will tip about 10% IF the service is good but spending that much at a time I would only tip 5%, again ONLY if the service was good. I think that 20% to 30% is way too much for anything.

That is different. She pockets all of that . i believe what you are giving is ok.

What you are giving is plenty! Are they the owner of the Salon where you have your service done? If so, you are not required to tip since the owner would be making 100% profit on the Service. However, if the person who is providing your service is Renting a space from the owner of the Salon, they usually get to keep 1/2 of what the Service Costs!

I think that $20-$30 is enough. You are a consistent customer for her, and $420 can pay her space rent for a month, or most of it, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Its one thing to tip 20% if you only get your hair dyed, but the extensions are really expensive...like I said, you are a consistent customer that she can count on for income, so how much you are tipping is just fine.
Trust me, if she thought you weren't giving her enough, she would be a total ****** and find some way to get rid of you.

I think that's absolutely fine for tipping. Part of the cost of your extensions is for the actual product, and you shouldn't have to tip on this amount, so if you know that, you can deduct and tip a percentage based only on the service. I haven't heard of extensions being quite so expensive before, but I don't know how much of a job you are needing to have done. You can also estimate some of their costs by dividing out to see how much "per hour" your cost comes out to, and kind of base your tipping on that to determine if it's truly fair. I'd say that a tip of an extra $3 to $5 per hour of work would be perfectly acceptable. After all, it's a tip and not the only compensation they are receiving for their work at all.

I assume this process takes at least one and a half to two hours? maybe more? i would tip no less than $40. If she spends long time with you on top of the high price.
