I have an appointment for a hair [curly] perm tomorrow...?
I have super thick hair and tried a perm. I was in love with the results. My hair was really easy to style (shower, towel dry, mousse).
When you first come out of the salon, your curls will be tighter than you may want...they will relax pretty soon.
Tell the hairdresser what size of curls you want. They have different size rollers -from really tight ringlets to looser waves.
Your stylist has permed lots of hair, so be specific about what you want. If you want curls, say you want curls. If you want texture, ask her to use a larger roller on your hair. Be specific, say, "I don't want curls, I want texture". Again, it will likely be curlier than you may want in the beginning. However, don't fret leaving the salon. When you get home, you can play with it and the curls will naturally relax.
I do know several people that have had perms and love them. They're super easy to manage and look so cute.
I tried perming my own hair - don't. I'm all for DIY, I dye my own hair and do everything, however perms are really messy and stink. The perming solution is very running and is very hard to work with. However, even with my DIY perm, my hair was not damaged. (I went to the salon for my next perms).
You will need to condition your hair more than usual. I recommend a leave in conditioner. Or, rather than shampooing daily, shampoo every other day and condition every day.
Also, avoid combing your hair. You can usually get by with finger combing your hair, otherwise you can grab a wide tooth comb. Your hair will go frizzy if you comb it.

My mom has really straight flat hair. She got a perm and hated it. It was like a flat wavy thing and it was fried. Now she just uses curlers at night and has nice curls in the morning.

Never had a perm in my life as my hair is nearly as curly as it is possible to have curly hair. Go for it! Get a spiral perm and a beautiful cut. You'll love it. (And on the days you don't, just pull it up off of your face into a curly tail.) XX

I have very fine hair that almost never holds body. When I was younger, my mom used to make me get perms all the time so that it looked like I actually had hair. I hate them as a kid but perms have come a long way since then.
Ask the stylist to use a wider curler (I have no idea what the professional term is) so that you have bigger curls. Smaller curls tend to make you look like a poodle. Make sure not to wash it for at least 24 hours and try not to flatten it for as long as possible either. Use lots of conditioner when you do wash it to avoid it from drying out.

tell them that all you want is body that way your hair won't be to curly it's always better to have a little less curl than to much. next time you'll know if you want it curlier. good luck
